Shrewsbury is fortunate to have its own beautiful,
29-acre parkland known as The Quarry. Throughout the year a host
events take place including of course The Shrewsbury Fields Forever
The Quarry has been the most important site for
recreation in Shrewsbury since the 16th Century. It is the perfect place
to relax, enjoy walks, picnic, fish along the banks of the River Severn,
or just let off steam.
At its centre lies the Dingle, a formal floral
masterpiece created by world renowned gardener Percy Thrower - during
his 28 years in the county town as the Park's Superintendent.
Its a beautiful sunken garden landscaped with alpine
borders, colourful bedding plants, shrubbery and water features.
Each August The Quarry the world famous Shrewsbury Flower
Show and this is the first year that the venue will be hosting the
Shrewsbury International Comic Art Festival in conjunction with the
Shrewsbury Fields Forever Music, Art and Comedy Festival which is
expected to attract a total of 10,000 visitors between the two events.
